Children In The Wilderness

Children In The Wilderness (CITW) is a grassroots project of Wilderness Safaris and we became involved in CITW through Wilderness Safaris who is both a sponsor and supporter of the event.

In 2009 we had the opportunity to attend one of these CITW camps. Spending a week in the bush with a bunch of energetic kids sounded like a mad idea but at the end of the week you become part of them and noticing the transformation in the kids after only a week is something special.

Their concept is well-structured and effective: Take a bunch of rural children for a week to a Wilderness Safari camp in the bush, feed them, have fun playing games and inspire them to see possibilities beyond their sometimes limiting surroundings.

Attending one of these camps has been a life changing experience for many children and teachers.

My favourite activity was the game drives and walks because I learned so much. I am going to go home and teach all my friends about what I learned, especially about HIV (Teapot – Children in the Wilderness Participant, Namibia)
